“FLAMES OF FIRE” (Exodus 3:1-10)

SERMON by Egan Yip: “FLAMES OF FIRE” (Exodus 3:1-10)

God chooses to use a bush, just a burning bush of all things. I see that as a symbol. I am like a bush. You look at me and what do you see? Nothing particularly special, I am not one of those beautiful cherry blossom trees, I am just a bush. No one is going to hire me to be a model or an actor. If some stranger saw me walking down the street, they wouldn’t even bet an eye on me. They would not care to look at me. By myself, I don’t shine like the sun or the stars. You see those popular preachers on TV or Youtube, compared to them, I am nothing. I don’t draw crowds like them, people are certainly not going to invite me to go speak at some sort of conference. I am just a bush. Just something in the outside where people can just pass by and not even care. Moses was a bush too. But God turned that ordinary bush into a sight to behold. It wasn’t the bush that was amazing, it was the fire around it. The holy fire of God, the flames of fire around the bush, a fire that did not destroy the bush but made it radiant. A living miracle of God.
Life is unfair but when we are speaking about the Bible, when we are speaking about us or when we are speaking about the church, that doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you came from. It doesn’t matter how little you have or how much you have. It doesn’t matter what you think you can or can’t do for God. You don’t have to be something or someone special in the eyes of the world because it’s God who transforms us. It’s God who can do a great work in us and through us. It’s God who can fill us with the wisdom and skill for the situations He presents before us. So let God be the fire and you be the bush. Will you make yourself available to God today and in your life going forward? That is a question that you have to find out for yourself and apply yourself to.

WHOM SHALL I FEAR?

You hear me when I call
You are my morning song
Though darkness fills the night
It cannot hide the light
Whom shall I fear
You crush the enemy
Underneath my feet
You are my sword and shield
Though troubles linger still
Whom shall I fear
I know who goes before me
I know who stands behind
The God of angel armies
Is always by my side
The one who reigns forever
He is a friend of mine
The God of angel armies
Is always by my side
My strength is in your name
For you alone can save
You will deliver me
Yours is the victory
Whom shall I fear
Whom shall I fear
I know who goes before me
I know who stands behind
The God of angel armies
Is always by my side
The one who reigns forever
He is a friend of mine
The God of angel armies
Is always by my side
And nothing formed against me shall stand
You hold the whole world in your hands
I’m holding on to your promises
You are faithful
You are faithful
Nothing formed against me shall stand
You hold the whole world in your hands
I’m holding on to your promises
You are faithful
You are faithful
You are faithful
I know who goes before me
I know who stands behind
The God of angel armies
Is always by my side
The one who reigns forever
He is a friend of mine
The God of angel armies
Is always by my side
I know who goes before me
I know who stands behind
The God of angel armies
Is always by my side
The one who reigns forever
He is a friend of mine
The God of angel armies
Is always by my side
The God of angel armies
Is always by my side
